ARTE EN LAS GALERÍAS (ART IN THE GALLERIES) Published in La Vanguardia, March 13th, 2017

Hace poco terminé la carrera de Humanidades, y he estado haciendo las prácticas en una galería de arte contemporáneo en Barcelona. Debo reconocer que antes de haber entrado con profundidad en este mundo, las galerías de arte me daban un cierto respeto. Paseaba por la calle y miraba tras las puertas de cristal con curiosidad, pero no me atrevía a entrar ya que pensaba que no podía y no entendía muy bien lo que pasaba allí dentro.

Sin embargo, durante estos últimos meses, he tenido la oportunidad de estar de cara al público en la galería y me he dado cuenta de lo agradable que es cuando los visitantes entran, saludan, preguntan y se interesan. Las galerías, por muy diferente que funcionen de un museo, también son espacios culturales, donde uno puede aprender, disfrutar, y crecer a través del arte.

A short time ago, I finished my degree in Humanities, and I have been working as an inter at a contemporary art gallery in Barcelona. I should admit that before having entered this world, art galleries daunted me a bit. I would pass by the street and look through the glass doors with curiosity, but I did not dare enter, because I thought I wasn’t allowed to and I didn’t understand very well what happened in there.

However, during these last few months, I have had the chance to be at the reception desk and I have realized how nice it is when people enter, they say hello, they ask about the art and they are interested in the gallery and its pieces. Galleries, though very different spaces than museums, are also cultural spaces where one can learn, enjoy, and grow through art.
